Electric vehicle: Panoramic roof or Solar roof?

Electric vehicle and hybrid vehicle are the future. But even if we get rid of most of the issues related to the conventional combustion motors, we still have to produce the electricity to power the car (or any transport means), somehow.

An increasingly popular feature of such vehicles is to embed a solar panel in the roof. This has the great advantage of producing the energy as close as possible to where it is needed, cutting off efficiency losses. Using conventional solar panels, this approach has one inconvenient: panoramic, see-through roofs are not possible anymore. Our proposal is to install a semi-transparent solar cell in the roof of electrical vehicles for reducing the need of refueling while preserving the aesthetics.

    Producing the electricity on the vehicle itself, via solar cells on its roof, is the most efficient way. No need for conversion or transportation of the power, as it is produced and consumed circularly in the same place.
